Kuwait City -- Iran and Kuwait will meet for the second time since signing an MOU on security cooperation in October, 2000 to discuss issues relating to their cross-border security, Iran's Charge D'affaires in Kuwait Reza Ameri said in Kuwait on Thursday.

A security delegation of the Iranian Interior Ministry, headed by a deputy Ali-Asghar Ahmadi, will arrive in Kuwait on Saturday for a four-day visit to meet with officials of the Sheikdom, including Interior Minister Mohammad al-Khalid al-Hamad al-Sabah and his deputies.

The two sides will discuss illegal cross-border entries as well as drug trafficking, Ameri said, adding he hoped the meeting will boost security cooperation between the two countries in this regard, IRNA reported.

He described as "eye-catching" cooperation between Iranian and Kuwaiti coast guards on confronting illegal entries as well as drug trafficking.

Iran's Interior Minister Abdolvahed Mousavi-Lari and his Kuwaiti counterpart Sheikh Khalid inked a memorandum of understanding (MOU) on domestic security cooperation in October, 2000.

The MOU stipulates mutual cooperation in campaign against drug trafficking, organized crimes, exchange of information on borders as well as provision of facilities for the countries' nationals.

To fulfill the provisions of the MOU, a committee comprising various departments of the interior ministries, the Law Enforcement Forces, and the ambassadors of Iran and Kuwait as well as border guards was formed.

The first meeting of the committee was held in Tehran, in which the two sides agreed to fight drug trafficking and illegal cross-border transits.
