TEHRAN- President Vladimir Putin of Russia has approved a proposal from the Iranian Foreign Ministry to establish a strategic partnership agreement with the Islamic Republic of Iran.

The official order, which was made public on the legal information system of Russia on Wednesday, confirms that Iranian Foreign Ministry's proposal, coordinated with relevant federal agencies and organizations, to create a comprehensive strategic partnership agreement between Russia and Iran has been accepted.

In a recent high-level meeting in Tehran, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian engaged in discussions with Sergei Shoigu, the secretary of the Security Council of the Russian Federation.

During this meeting, President Pezeshkian expressed the commitment of the 14th government to actively pursue ongoing cooperation and initiatives aimed at enhancing bilateral relations.

Pezeshkian noted that strengthening ties between Iran and Russia would mitigate the impact of sanctions and unjust measures imposed on both nations.

Last week, President Putin reiterated Russia's support for Iran's transit routes during a meeting with Ali Akbar Ahmadian, the secretary of the Supreme National Security Council, who was in St. Petersburg for the BRICS summit.

Putin characterized the relationship between Tehran and Moscow as strategic, highlighting that the nature of their partnership indicates a strong unity between the two countries.

The Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov announced during a recent meeting with professors and students at a university linked to the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs that Moscow and Tehran are on the verge of finalizing the comprehensive cooperation agreement.

Lavrov emphasized that this agreement will serve as a significant milestone in the relationship with the new Iranian government, noting that only technical details are pending and that the agreement encompasses all facets of the partnership between the two nations.
