TEHRAN – The head of the Lift and Escalator Component Manufacturers Association of Iran (known as LIEMA) has said more than 90 percent of the components and parts used in the escalators and elevators are currently being manufactured in the country, IRIB reported.

Speaking to the press on the sidelines of the 13th International Exhibition of Elevators, Escalators, Elevating Conveyors and Accessories (IRAN LIFTEX 2024), Samad Shafahi said: “only one to two percent of the elevators that have a special use and are mainly installed in petrochemical plants or refineries, their parts are imported. The rest of the elevators and escalators needed by the country are produced and put into operation by domestic producers.”

According to the official, over 50,000 elevators and 1,200 escalators are built in the country every year, all of which are produced with the efforts of domestic manufacturers.

“More than 500 production units operate in the elevator industry, of which 350 units are officially members of LIEMA, and the rest present their activities and products in different ways,” he said.

He further noted that over 80,000 people are currently active in the industry of which 30,000 are directly involved in the production and the rest operate in various sub-sectors.

The 13th International Exhibition of Elevators, Escalators, Elevating Conveyors and Accessories (IRAN LIFTEX 2024) kicked off at Tehran Permanent International Fairgrounds on July 10.

The inauguration ceremony of the four-day exhibit was participated by Deputy Industry, Mining and Trade Minister Mohammad Mehdi Baradaran.

As reported, over 135 domestic and foreign companies from various countries including China, Germany, Turkey, and Italy are participating in this year’s exhibition.

Several business delegations from Turkey, Algeria, Iraq, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Iraq’s Kurdistan Region and Oman are also going to visit the exhibition.

Holding B2B meetings among the members of the delegations and participants of the exhibition is also one of the programs scheduled for the exhibition.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Baradaran said over the past few years the domestic production of elevators and escalator parts has saved the country millions of dollars.

“In this exhibition domestic and foreign producers of elevators and related equipment, along with service and consulting companies, have the opportunity to display their products and services and communicate with international visitors and buyers,” he said.
