Iranian capital mourns advisors assassinated by Israel

TEHRAN - A sea of mourners flooded the streets of the Iranian capital on Monday to bid farewell to three Iranian military advisors, who fell victim to an Israeli attack on the Syrian capital Damascus.

The gathered crowds resounded with chants, demanding that the Israeli regime be held accountable for its actions.

The martyrs, who were laid to rest in northern Tehran, were part of the 5 Islamic Revolution Guards Corps members killed during Israeli airstrikes in the heavily guarded Mezzeh neighborhood in western Damascus. Another commemorative ceremony for the remaining two martyrs is scheduled to take place in the holy city of Qom.

This recent strike follows Israel's previous killing of an IRGC advisor outside the Syrian capital in December. Seyyed Razi Mousavi was assassinated during an airstrike on his residence.

Iran has maintained an advisory presence in Syria at the behest of Damascus, with the goal of aiding the war-torn nation in overcoming foreign-backed terrorists who have been in conflict with the Syrian government since 2011. Iran's advisory support has been instrumental in assisting Syria in combating Daesh and reclaiming control over nearly all regions previously held by the terror group.
