TEHRAN- The head of Iran’s Ports and Maritime Organization (PMO) presented his country’s maritime capabilities during the 121st session of the International Maritime Organization (IMO) held in London from November 19 to 23, IRNA reported.

Expounding upon the potentials and qualities of Iranian maritime fleet, Mohammad Rastad mentioned that Iran has been a member of IMO since 1958 and since then the country has been fully committed to all of its membership duties.

The official presenting a video clip on the ports and maritime activities of Iran during the session was highly welcomed by the audience.

Rastad said that Iran has complained about the limitations on Iran’s maritime activities due to the U.S. re-imposition of sanctions against Iran and is hoping to receive support from IMO and its members in this due.

IMO is the United Nations specialized agency with responsibility for the safety and security of shipping and the prevention of marine and atmospheric pollution by ships. It is the global standard-setting authority for the safety, security and environmental performance of international shipping. Its main role is to create a regulatory framework for the shipping industry that is fair and effective, universally adopted and universally implemented.
