Iranian Navy to stage massive drills in Strait of Hormuz

TEHRAN – The Iranian Navy commander announced that his forces will hold massive war games in the eastern waters of the Strait of Hormuz on Tuesday and Wednesday.

According to Rear Admiral Habibollah Sayyari, the war games will be held to exercise rescue operations to assist the vessels sailing in the region, Fars reported on Saturday.

Earlier the day, Iranian and Omani military chiefs said the two countries’ naval forces are slated to conduct joint naval drills in the Persian Gulf on Wednesday.

The announcement was made on Saturday after a meeting between Deputy Chief of Staff of the Iranian Armed Forces Rear Admiral Saleh Esfahani and senior Omani Army Commander Brigadier General Hamd bin Rashid bin Saeed al-Balushi in Tehran.

Brigadier General al-Balushi is heading a 12-member Omani military delegation on a four-day visit to Iran.
