PARIS – Iranian javelin thrower Saeid Afrooz claimed a gold medal at the 2024 Paralympic Games on Wednesday.
He finished in first place with a throw of 41.16 meters in the Men’s Javelin Throw F34 and broke the Paralympics record.
Colombian throwers Mauricio Valencia and Fernando Meneses Median Diego won a silver and a bronze medal with 39.04 and 37.17 meters, respectively.
Afrooz had won a gold medal in the previous Paralympics in Tokyo with a throw of 40.35.
It was Iran’s third gold in the Games. Shooter Sarej Javanmardi and shot putter Amirhossein Alipour had won two gold medals.
“I had competed with the Colombian throwers in Tokyo and knew them. I am so happy to win a gold because I tried hard since Tokyo to improve my record,” Afrooz said.
