TEHRAN - Amidst an outpouring of grief and reverence, Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei solemnly led the funeral prayer for the late President Ebrahim Raisi and Foreign Minister Hossein Amir Abdollahian on Wednesday morning.
The University of Tehran campus was filled to capacity as Iranians from all walks of life gathered to pay their final respects to the beloved officials. Tens of thousands of people prayed behind Ayatollah Khamenei inside the university, while thousands more filled the streets outside, unable to enter the overcrowded venue.
Prominent Iranian officials and military commanders were present at the funeral prayer, mourning the tragic loss of President Raisi and Minister Amir Abdollahian, who perished in a helicopter crash in northwestern Iran on Sunday. Additionally, leaders from various resistance groups, such as Hamas political chief Ismail Haniyeh and Islamic Jihad chief Ziad al-Nakhala, were in attendance at the ceremony.
The Leader's representative to East Azarbaijan Province and the provincial governor were among the dead.
President Raisi and his entourage were on their way back from the opening ceremony of a joint major dam with the Republic of Azerbaijan.
