TEHRAN – The eldest son of Martyr Ismail Haniyeh has reaffirmed the unique and warm relationship between Ismail Haniyeh and the Leader of Islamic Revolution, underpinned by their shared goal of fostering unity among the Islamic nations for the sake of Palestine’s liberation.

“The bond between the two leaders was not just personal, but also symbolic of a broader alignment in the struggle against oppression and occupation,” Abdul Salam Haniyeh said in an interview with Al Mayadeen on Monday.

During the interview, he spoke extensively about his father's unwavering commitment to the Palestinian cause.

Ismail Haniyeh, the former head of the Hamas political bureau, was martyred in a terrorist attack in Tehran. His son, in an interview with Al-Mayadeen, shed light on the life and moral character of his father, emphasizing the deep connections that shaped his journey of Resistance.

The funeral of Ismail Haniyeh, which saw millions of mourners from Tehran to Doha, was a powerful testament to the significance of the Palestinian cause within the Islamic world. Abdul Salam Haniyeh recounted the overwhelming turnout, noting that the massive participation was a clear message from the Islamic Ummah and all freedom-loving people around the globe: Palestine is an issue that belongs to everyone.

He emphasized that Ismail Haniyeh maintained a close and affectionate relationship with the Leader of the Islamic Revolution in Iran. This bond, he explained, was rooted in a shared vision of uniting the Islamic Ummah in the fight for the liberation of Palestine. According to Abdul Salam, this unity was a cornerstone of the relationship between his father and the Ayatollah Khamenei, reflecting their mutual commitment to the Palestinian cause.

He further added that the enormous crowd, gathered to bid farewell to the martyred leader, reinforced the idea that no matter the challenges, Palestine and Jerusalem will always be the guiding compass for the Islamic Ummah. This belief, Abdul Salam explained, was the driving force behind his father's lifelong work—ensuring that the Islamic world remains united in its quest to liberate Palestine.
