Iranian wrestlers collect two golds in 2022 Asian Games
TEHRAN – Iranian Greco-Roman wrestlers Mohammadhadi Saravi and Amin Mirzazadeh won two gold medals in the 2022 Asian Games on Thursday.
Saravi defeated Uzbekistan’s Rustam Assakalov 6-3, Kyrgyzstan’s Uzur Dzhuzupbekov 3-1 and Kazakhstan’s Islam Umayev 8-0 before securing his place the final.
He defeated China’s Yiming Li 5-1 in the final bout to win gold medal in the 97kg weight class.
Mirzazadeh also defeated Lingzhe Meng of China to win the 130kg gold medal.
He had defeated Thailand’s Nanthawat Panphuek 9-0, Turkmenistan’s Aybegshazada Kurrayev 9-0 and Alimkhan Syzdykov of Kazakhstan 3-1 before reaching the final.
With more than 12,000 competitors from 45 nations and territories, the Asian Games has more participants than the Olympics.
Iran has sent 289 male and female athletes to the Games in 34 sports events.
