TEHRAN – Head of Iran Chamber of Commerce, Industries, Mines and Agriculture (ICCIMA) Gholam-Hossein Shafeie has criticized the lack of implementation of intra-regional trade treaties among members of the Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO) in a meeting with the organization’s Secretary General Khosro Nazeri.

Shafeie, who is the periodic Head of the ECO Chamber of Commerce and Industry, expressed dissatisfaction with the level of trade exchanges among the members of the union, saying that the level of trade is not in accordance with the capacities of the region.

“The volume of exchanges within the ECO region has not exceeded 70 billion dollars, while the ten ECO members’ annual trade with the world amounts to 930 billion dollars” he regretted.

The Economic Cooperation Organization or ECO is an Asian political and economic intergovernmental organization that was founded in 1985 in Tehran by the leaders of Iran, Pakistan, and Turkey.
