Protecting tropical ecosystem ‘more important than ever’

TEHRAN – With studies suggesting that half the world’s population will call the tropics home by 2050, it’s more important than ever to protect these unique and fragile ecosystems.

Mangrove, the wonder of marine habitats

TEHRAN – The mangrove tree, as a wonder of the marine environment, offers many benefits to various species including birds, fish, crustaceans, and even some terrestrial animals, and stabilizes the soil, as well.

Some 2,000 mangrove saplings planted   

People planted on Friday 2,000 mangrove saplings in the Persian Gulf island of Qeshm.

Rich ecosystems that support the planet and humanity

TEHRAN – Mangrove forests are rich ecosystems that support the planet and humanity in unique ways by providing conditions for fish growth, storing carbon, and fighting floods. They are able to store about 6 to 8 tons of carbon per hectare of soil per year.

Some 100,000 mangrove saplings to be planted in 2 provinces 

TEHRAN – The Department of Environment is planning to plant some 100,000 saplings of mangrove in the two southern provinces of Sistan-Baluchestan and Khuzestan, IRNA reported.

Plan on expanding mangrove forests on agenda

TEHRAN – Provincial authorities in participation with local communities in Bandar Lengeh port city, southern Hormozgan province, are planning to plant 50,000 mangrove saplings.

Southern mangrove forests hosting 150 migratory bird species

TEHRAN – Some 150 species of migratory birds are wintering in the wetlands and mangrove forests of Southern Qeshm Island, the provincial department of environment chief Mohammad Hashem Dakhteh, has said.
