TEHRAN-The group exhibition “The Storm of Art” was launched on Sunday at the Palestine Museum of Contemporary Art in Tehran.

The exhibition, showcasing performance art, conceptual art, and installation art, addresses the theme of Operation al-Aqsa Storm, ISNA reported.

The Islamic Resistance Movement, abbreviated Hamas, launched Operation al-Aqsa Storm into the occupied territories on October 7, 2023, in response to intensified crimes by Israeli forces and settlers against Palestinians in the occupied West Bank. In response, the Zionist regime waged an all-out war on Gaza, killing more than 44,000 people, about half of them children, and wounding tens of thousands in the tightly besieged enclave.

Curated by Mohsen Rahimi, the exhibition features selected works by various artists and will be open to visitors until November 13.

The opening ceremony was attended by prominent figures such as Mahmoud Salari, Deputy Minister of Culture and Islamic Guidance in Art Affairs; Ahmad Qayoumi, Governor of Tehran; and Ali Forouzanfar, Director of the General Directorate of Culture and Guidance of Tehran Province among others.

“In my opinion, all freedom-loving and thoughtful individuals will welcome such an exhibition. The insights drawn from the exhibition foster both intellectual and emotional growth, creating a blend of intensity and heroism,” Salari said in his address at the ceremony.

“Installation art and the art of presenting ideas through tools that convey thoughts result in blessed events like this exhibition, and I invite all art enthusiasts to visit,” he added.

Salari emphasized that conceptual art depends on the viewer’s artistic insight and literacy. “Those familiar with artistic symbols, motifs, and their connection with contemporary social and political issues will have a richer experience here. This exhibition engages visitors in a mutual exchange of emotions and ideas, continuing beyond the gallery walls,” he noted.

For his part, Forouzanfar recalled the first anniversary of the Operation al-Aqsa Storm, and said: “The exhibition celebrates the great uprising of the Palestinian people, which brought joy to the hearts of the oppressed and Muslims worldwide, while also commemorating a year of crimes by the Zionist regime”.

Referring to a recent three-day event at the Palestine Museum of Contemporary Art, he added: “The three-day event at the museum led to the creation of 19 artworks, produced in three sections by Iranian artists in collaboration with artists in Gaza. The exhibition, now open to the public, showcases part of this creative output”.

The Palestinian Museum of Contemporary Art is an institution affiliated with the Academy of Arts, which was opened in 2005. The building is dedicated to holding exhibitions of the Islamic world.

The name of the museum is a reminder of the art of resistance and patriotism. It is located at No. 74, junction of Bozorgmehr and Mozaffar streets.
