TEHRAN – The Iranian government spokesperson, Fatemeh Mohajerani, has condemned the Israeli regime's attack on a residence occupied by journalists in southern Lebanon as a war crime. 

"The Israeli attack on media centers in Lebanon signifies a broader disaster," Mohajerani stated on her social media account, "Perpetrators often seek to obscure their misdeeds from global awareness."

The spokeswoman underscored that the Geneva Convention and laws protecting journalists during wartime were established to ensure that the dissemination of information does not hinder the exposure of crimes committed in silence.

"The gunfire and assault by the Israeli regime on the Al-Mayadeen and Al-Manar journalists' office is not incidental," Mohajerani continued, "It represents a deliberate, state-sponsored act of assassination aimed at concealing the atrocities being perpetrated in Gaza and Lebanon."

Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmail Baqaei echoed this condemnation, calling the killing of the three journalists yet another instance of Israel's persistent war crimes.

Referencing the 1949 Geneva Conventions, particularly the Third Geneva Convention, as well as the 1977 Additional Protocols, especially Article 79 of the first additional protocol, Baqaei emphasized that these treaties grant immunity to journalists operating in conflict zones and safeguard their equipment as non-combatants.

"The Iranian Foreign Ministry's stance on this incident reflects the broader global concern for the well-being of journalists and underscores the value of a free and independent press," Baqaei asserted. 

He highlighted that over the past year, Israeli forces have killed 180 journalists, emphasizing that journalists and media professionals are entitled to protection under international humanitarian law. 

According to the Committee of Protect Journalists (CPJ), a total of 139 journalists and media workers have been reported killed in Israel’s ongoing war in the Gaza Strip which began over a year ago.
