Pezeshkian-Putin meeting scheduled for BRICS summit
TEHRAN- Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian is scheduled to meet with his Russian counterpart during his upcoming visit to Kazan, Russia, for the BRICS summit.
Iran's Ambassador to Moscow, Kazem Jalali, revealed to TASS news agency that Pezeshkian will attend the annual BRICS summit in Kazan this October. During his visit, Pezeshkian is set to meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin.
The Iranian ambassador expressed confidence in Pezeshkian's participation in the upcoming BRICS summit, noting that preparations are underway to ensure the trip is productive and advantageous for the relationship between Tehran and Moscow.
Jalali further mentioned, “Pezeshkian’s agenda includes a meeting with the Russian President, as well as discussions with other Russian officials, alongside engagements with the Iranian community and a speech at the summit.”
Jalali also indicated that a comprehensive cooperation agreement between Iran and Russia is anticipated to be signed during the visit or at a subsequent meeting between the two presidents once the document is finalized.
The BRICS group holds annual summits to bring together its member nations' leaders. These summits provide a platform for discussing critical global economic and political issues.
Additionally, it provides a chance for BRICS nations to strengthen bilateral partnerships in sectors like finance, energy, agriculture, and technology.
Russia assumed the presidency of BRICS on January 1, 2024, and will be holding the position for the entire year. Iran officially became a member of the BRICS international group at the beginning of 2024. This year's BRICS summit is expected to address the potential membership of Turkey in the bloc.
