Iran highlights Caspian Sea nations to tackle pollution crisis
TEHRAN- The Iranian ambassador to Turkmenistan has emphasized that industrial initiatives, establishing secure transportation routes, and extracting hydrocarbon resources from the Caspian Sea play a crucial role in the economic advancement and social well-being of the littoral nations.
In celebration of Caspian Sea Day on August 12, Turkmenistan organized an international conference titled "The Caspian Sea - Cooperation for Sustainable Development" in the Avaza tourist area.
During this conference, Ali Mojtaba Roozbahani remarked that the Caspian Sea represents a shared heritage, a symbol of friendship, and a source of prosperity for over 270 million individuals residing in its bordering countries. He noted, “Just as our ancestors safeguarded this invaluable natural resource, it is our responsibility to ensure its protection for the benefit of future generations.”
Roozbahani further stated that the development, ratification, and execution of the Framework Convention for the Protection of the Marine Environment of the Caspian Sea (Tehran Convention in 2003) marks a significant initial step towards fostering cooperation in the region, highlighting the critical importance of environmental conservation as a fundamental principle guiding all activities in the Caspian Sea.
The Caspian Sea region is a strategic region connecting the North-South and East-West corridors.
Every year, the countries around the Caspian Sea organize a conference focused on sustainable development, bringing together ambassadors from the region to discuss the protection of water resources.
