TEHRAN – Mohammadreza Riazi, a distinguished expert in the Iranian cultural heritage, has passed away due to cardiac arrest, at the age of 75.

In that regard, the National Museum of Iran issued a statement on Sunday, expressing condolences and confirming that Riazi died on Saturday.

Born in 1949 in the village of Kesheh, Isfahan province, Riazi had a long and illustrious career in the fields of archaeology and cultural heritage.

Holding a bachelor’s and master’s degree in geography, Riazi furthered his education by obtaining a master’s degree in archaeology from the University of Tehran in the 1990s.

He also taught archaeology, museology, architecture, and art research at various universities across the country.

Riazi’s professional achievements are extensive. He served as the head of the National Museum of Iran’s library, a member of the museum’s research council, and Iran’s representative on UNESCO’s Memory of the World Committee.

In addition to his academic and administrative roles, Riazi was a prolific author, with over 70 books and articles on Iranian and global art and civilization.

He leaves behind a lasting legacy in various fields of cultural heritage and archaeology, influencing countless students, researchers, and enthusiasts through his teaching and publications.
