Iranian MP condemns IAEA resolution as 'Political'
TEHRAN - Alaeddin Borujerdi, a member of the Iranian Parliament, has denounced the latest resolution passed by the International Atomic Energy Agency's (IAEA) Board of Governors regarding Iran's nuclear program as politically motivated.
According to Borujerdi, the resolution, which was proposed by Britain, France, and Germany, was adopted despite Iran's ongoing cooperation with the IAEA. He emphasized that Iran had been scaling back its commitments under the 2015 nuclear deal, known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), in response to the United States' withdrawal from the agreement and subsequent reimposition of sanctions.
In a Saturday interview with IRNA, Borujerdi pointed out that the JCPOA was a multilateral agreement in which Iran agreed to limit its nuclear activities in exchange for the termination of sanctions. He argued that the Board of Governors' resolution was therefore "totally political" and condemned it on behalf of Iran.
The resolution, passed on Wednesday, June 5, called on Iran to enhance its cooperation with the IAEA and allow some specific inspectors from the agency to enter its nuclear sites. Iran has rejected the allegations made against it in the resolution, asserting that it has fully complied with its obligations under the Comprehensive Safeguard Agreements (CSA) and has cooperated extensively with the IAEA.
Tehran maintains that its nuclear program is solely for peaceful purposes and that it remains committed to the Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT). The country emphasizes that its policy of non-proliferation remains unchanged.
Iranian nuclear sites are the most comprehensively inspected nuclear facilities in the world.
