Football fans to remember Ghayeghran on 26th anniversary of his death
TEHRAN – Sirous Ghayeghran died 26 years ago at the age of 36. He was killed in a car accident along his eight-year-old son Rastin on his way home from Bandar Anzali on April 7, 1998.
Ghayeghran started his playing career in his homeland football club Malavan in 1980 and played for the team for seven years before joining Qatari club Al Gharafa.
Ghayeghran is remembered Ghayeghran for one of the most memorable goals in Iranian football history.
In the 1990 Asian Games, he scored a winner against South Korea in the semifinals. Team melli eventually won the title after defeating North Korea in the final match.
Ghayeghran represented Iran national football team 43 caps and scored six goals.
The Malavan football fans put name of San Sirous on their home stadium after Sirous Ghayeghran.
