PMO proposes establishing policymaking authority to improve maritime economy
TEHRAN – The head of Iran’s Ports and Maritime Organization (PMO) has said in order to realize the goals of the maritime economy, it is necessary to form an integrated authority in the form of a supreme institution for policy making.
“In this regard, the maritime economy working group was formed by the first vice presidency with the presence of relevant ministers and the secretary of the Ministry of Transport and Urban Development; in this working group, plans related to the development of the coasts and the sea are defined,” Ali-Akbar Safaei told IRIB.
“We are trying to increase the share of the maritime economy in the country by implementing various industrial, housing, and agricultural projects, and by developing transit and logistics infrastructure on the coasts,” he said.
The official emphasized that the compilation of a comprehensive maritime economy roadmap is a turning point in the history of the Islamic Republic of Iran, noting that the 13th government has been following extensive plans to develop the maritime economy in the country.
