TEHRAN – Iran plans to provide a technological roadmap for food products with the aim of dealing with sanctions and materializing the goal of self-sufficiency in the food industry, the secretary of biotech development center (BioDC) at the science and technology vice-presidency announced, Mehr reported.

Mostafa Qanei referred to water shortage in developing countries and the rising world population as the reasons for the countries to plan for the use of technology to double food products in agricultural fields.

The genetic engineering and especially the genetically modified organism (GMO) are the main challenges of the BioDC in providing the technological roadmap for food products, he said.
