Jalal literary awards to commemorate Afghan author Mohammad Akram Osman

TEHRAN – The 9th annual Jalal Al-e Ahmad Literary Awards, Iran’s most lucrative literary prize, plans to pay tribute to Mohammad Akram Osman, the celebrated Afghan writer who died in August.

Akram Osman will be commemorated during the award presentation ceremony at Tehran’s Vahdat Hall on Saturday, the organizers announced on Wednesday.

His celebrated novel “Our Alley” is considered as one of the longest works of fiction in Afghanistan.

Akram Osman was born in 1937 in Herat and obtained a Ph.D. at the University of Tehran.

He was director of the Art and Literature Department at the Afghanistan Radio as well as a member of the Afghanistan Science Academy.

He served as the president of Afghanistan’s Writers Association and the minister of external affair. He was also Afghanistan’s chargé d’affaires in Tehran.

Akram Osman was the head of Afghans’ Pen Club in Stockholm. Farda magazine was being published in Stockholm under his supervision.
