Iran to pursue strategy of ‘look to the East’ in Moscow: Velayati

TEHRAN – Senior politician Ali Akbar Velayati has said in his talks with top Russian officials in Moscow the strategy of “look to the East”, which was adopted by Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, will be studied.

Upon arrival in Moscow on Monday, Velayati said that strategic issues and regional cooperation in political and security areas will be discussed in his meetings with Russian officials.

Velayati, a senior advisor to the Leader, said that the cooperation between the two countries is “strategic” and “growing”.

Iran and Russia can play a constructive role in the region and on international arena in ensuring peace and security, TASS news agency quoted Velayati as saying.

“As two countries that have great influence on the situation in the region and on international arena, Iran and Russia can play a constructive role in ensuring peace and forming favorable conditions for international exchange and regional cooperation,” he added.

He said, “Russia and Iran are main players in the sphere of regional cooperation.”
