Iranian Parliamentary Group Confers With Armenian PM

TEHRAN -- Iranian Parliamentary Friendship Group led by Levon Davidian in Yerevan on Tuesday held talks with Armenian Prime Minister Andranik Markaryan on ways to develop relations between the two countries.

At the meeting, Markaryan welcomed the Iranian parliamentary delegation and called for closer cooperation between Iranian and the Armenian parliaments.

He said that he was pleased with the growing trend in bilateral relations adding that Armenian President Robert Kocharyan's visit to Iran last year served to consolidate relations between the two countries.

Markaryan said that Tehran-Yerevan fourth economic commission was held successfully and called for implementation of the agreements reached by the two countries on political, economic and international fields.

The Armenian prime minister said that the parliaments have effective role in boosting relations between the governments.

Davidian thanked the Armenian officials for the hospitality extended to the Iranian delegation and said that Iran is keen on developing cooperation with Armenia on political, parliamentary and international issues.

The MP said that the Iranian and Armenian parliaments are preparing the ground for fostering closer inter-government cooperation, IRNA reported.

He pointed to the upcoming presidential and parliamentary elections in Armenia and hoped that people from all walks of life would take part in the two elections which would serve peace and stability in Armenia.

Davidian briefed the Armenian prime minister on the status of Armenians living in Iran and said that the Islamic Republic of Iran is determined to help solve the problems of the Armenians.
