TEHRAN -- On the occasion of Sacred Defense Week and the start of the school year, the Islamic Revolution War Veterans' Society issued a statement congratulating students on the new school year.

The statement also declared that the eight-year Iraqi imposed war began with the aim of destroying the Islamic Revolution, adding that people all over the world know that Iran's defense was not fratricide, expansionism or a vendetta but was simply defending the country's sovereignty and Islamic identity.

It also said that Sacred Defense Week is a good opportunity for the nation to show its strength in defending against any threats and countering enemy plots.

It added that the youth shoulder the greatest responsibility in supporting the Islamic Revolution and its lofty ideals.

It also said that the government, the Majlis, the Supreme Council of the Cultural Revolution, and relevant organizations and departments must formulate the Islamic Republic of Iran's cultural doctrine.

It concluded by saying that the Islamic Republic of Iran's War Veterans believe that this great campaign should be based on the Constitution and the policies and guidelines of the late Imam and the Leader of the Islamic Revolution.
