Brunei Eager to Benefit From Iran's Experiences

KUALA LUMPUR Iran's new Ambassador to Brunei Abolfazl Alikhani conferred with Brunei Foreign Minister Prince Mohammad Bolkiah on issues of mutual interests.

Welcoming the Iranian ambassador to Brunei capital Bandar Seri Begawan, Bolkiah said that his country has recently drawn up its five-year economic and social plan and is eager to benefit from Iran's cooperation to implement the plan, IRNA reported.

Brunei is ready to make use of Iran's experience in oil and gas industries, marine facilities and infrastructure for its development plan, he added.

Mohamad Bolkiah expressed his willingness to visit Tehran as chairman of the joint economic commission to hold its second meeting.

Alikhani, for his part, conveyed the greetings of Iran's Foreign Minister Kamal Kharrazi to Mohamad Bolkiah and voiced Iran's readiness to increase bilateral and international cooperation mainly those in economic affairs.

Alikhani submitted his credentials to Sultan of Brunei Haji Hassan Al Bolkiah on Monday.

The first Iran-Brunei Joint Economic Commission meeting presided over by the foreign ministers of the two countries, was held in 1996 while the second meeting is scheduled to be held in Tehran.
