Meanwhile, Iran's police have cleaned up four regions in this northeastern province bordering Afghanistan from the scourge of armed Afghan bandits, state Police Chief Brigadier General Mohammad-Baqer Qalibaf said here Saturday.
He said that Kashmar, Bardeskan, Esfarayen and Khaf have undergone cleanup operation in the past 25 days.
The general, however, expressed his dissatisfaction with the sealing off of eastern borders.
He said that the Majlis and the government have earmarked 200 billion rials for closing the eastern borders which, he added, is not sufficient for a 200-kilometer-long border.
He said that more credits are necessary for a stable security along the eastern borders.
Qalibaf said that the strategic flash points of the eastern borders with Afghanistan will be equipped with electronic devices.
Iranian officials have called for more aid from Europe to help Iran curb drug trade. Narcotics destined for markets in Europe and the Persian Gulf often pass through the country from neighboring Afghanistan and Pakistan.
