‘Iran committed to completing border wall with Afghanistan’: envoy
TEHRAN- Iran's envoy to Afghanistan has affirmed Tehran’s commitment to completing the border wall with its neighboring country, Afghanistan.
Hassan Kazemi Qomi stated in an interview released by IRNA on Monday that the border wall construction has already commenced.
He mentioned that Iran’s National Security Council has mandated this initiative.
Furthermore, he highlighted Iran's ongoing collaboration with Afghanistan's caretaker government to enhance border security.
“Both nations are working together to address issues such as counter-terrorism, drug trafficking, and other mutual concerns,” Kazemi Qomi underscored.
Previously, the public relations department of the Iranian army announced that a 930-kilometer wall is being constructed along Iran's eastern borders with Afghanistan, aimed at improving security for both countries and reducing smuggling activities.
The proposed border wall will stand 4 meters high, extend 3.7 kilometers in length, and have a thickness of one meter.
The project is scheduled for completion in Khorasan Razavi province over a three-year timeframe, with an allocated budget of 1.8 trillion rials, equivalent to approximately three million dollars.
