TEHRAN - Head of the Islamic Republic of Iran Railways (known as RAI) Miad Salehi said the Shalamcheh-Basra Railway project which is one the major railway projects of Iran is progressing at a significant speed, Mehr News Agency reported.

“For more than 50 years, the two countries of Iran and Iraq have been waiting for the construction of this line to witness the establishment of a rail link between the two countries,” Salehi said.

Earlier this month, Salehi said in order to speed up the construction of the mentioned railway, various parts of the project, especially demining and bridge construction, are being done simultaneously and in parallel.
