TEHRAN- Two Iranian works will take part in the 25th Calgary International Film Festival (CIFF), due to be held from September 19 to 29 in Alberta, Canada.

The Iranian short animated movie “In the Shadow of Cypress,” co-directed by Hossein Molayemi and Shirin Sohani and produced by the Institute for the Intellectual Development of Children and Young Adults, and the short film “Sheep” written, directed, and produced by Hadi Babaeifar will be screened during the event, ISNA reported.

A 2023 production, “In the Shadow of Cypress” depicts a former captain suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder who lives with his daughter in a humble house located by the sea. Together, they live isolated from the world and must confront the challenges of their situation. One morning, their lives change forever when an unforeseen event occurs.

“Sheep,” a production of 2024, tells the story of Rose, a little girl in Tehran, who lives with her mother. After discovering that her neighbors are killing sheep, Rose decides to save them. Rose Tabatabaei and Gelavij Alam play in the film.

Celebrating its 25th anniversary, the 11-day Calgary International Film Festival has grown to be the biggest film festival in Alberta and the sixth-largest in Canada.

Offering over $40,000 in cash and prizes, the festival awards outstanding films selected by the audience and esteemed juries. Showcasing an average of 200 short and feature-length multi-genre films, from Canada and around the world, CIFF is a qualifying, accredited festival for the Academy Awards® and the Canadian Screen Awards.

Taking place on the edge of the world's most dynamic filming locations, the festival is known for its hospitality and has been named one of the “Top 50 Film Festivals Worth the Entry Fee” by MovieMaker Magazine in 2019, 2020, 2022, and 2023.
