TEHRAN - A spokesperson for Pakistan’s Foreign Ministry has commented on the assassination of prominent Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh in Tehran, emphasizing Iran's right to defend itself.

During the Pakistani foreign ministry weekly press briefing, Mumtaz Zahra Baloch condemned the ongoing actions of the Zionist regime against the Palestinian population. She called on the international community to take decisive action against these violations and to work towards ending the conflict in Gaza.

Baloch reiterated Pakistan's commitment to fostering lasting peace in the region, while also highlighting the need for accountability for the Zionist regime's alleged crimes against humanity in the besieged Palestinian territories.

On July 31, a predawn strike by the Zionist regime resulted in the death of Haniyeh, who had recently participated in the inauguration ceremony of President Masoud Pezeshkian in Tehran.

In response to the Haniyeh assassination, the Pakistani government announced a day of mourning.
