TEHRAN PAPERS

Neighborhood policy and opening new markets

August 14, 2024 - 20:54

TEHRAN - In a note, the Iran newspaper addressed the plan proposed by Seyyed Abbas Araghchi, the proposed choice of Masoud Pezeshkian for the position of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and wrote: Continuation of good neighborhood policy is one of the important aspects of the foreign policy of the proposed foreign minister.

According to Araghchi, this policy will not be possible except by benefiting from the capacity of regional organizations such as Shanghai, BRICS, the Eurasian Economic Union, and other similar organizations, and it will be an opportunity for the new government to extend the "field of diplomacy" to Africa, Latin America, and East Asia. Therefore, it is possible to pass the country through the chain of sanctions and try to open new markets and mechanisms to "reduce sanctions costs". In this context, he also called for the continuation of strong relations with China and Russia and the expansion of cooperation with emerging economies such as India, Indonesia, South Africa, and Brazil, facilitating trade and economic relations with neighbors, especially in the border areas.

Shargh: Managing tension with America

In a commentary, Shargh discussed the importance of the American elections for the world and said: Perhaps the elections of no other country are as important as the American elections to the world's media, including Iran. The American elections have a decisive influence on the global and regional policies of the Middle East. The American elections are very important for Iran. For more than four decades, the governments of Iran and the United States have been in a highly controversial situation, and some believe that coming to office of the Democratic Party, the tension between the countries will decrease and the issue of negotiation and communication with the United States will be facilitated. But the heads of the Islamic Republic do not believe this and have repeatedly stated that for them there is no difference between the president of the Democratic Party and the Republican Party. After the war in Ukraine, many issues are happening inside the U.S. regarding the Middle East, such as the internal developments of the Republican and Democratic parties. We need to analyze these so that we can reach a consensus framework within the government, based on which a group will work in this framework so that this situation does not get worse than it is; secondly, we go towards improving the atmosphere to some extent.

Donya-e-Eqtesad: Iran does not ask permission from anyone

In an article, Donya-e-Eqtesad dealt with Iran's possible response to the recent crime of the Zionist regime. The paper said: Iran's response and the concern of regional and extra-regional countries regarding the increase of conflicts and the spread of war, has forced European leaders to try to reduce the possibility of the spread of war while consulting with Iranian authorities. German Chancellor Olaf Scholz and British Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer asked Iran to show restraint in separate calls. Iran is determined to defend its sovereignty and national security, as well as help to establish stability in the region and create deterrence against the real source of insecurity and terrorism in the region, and it does not ask permission from anyone to use its recognized rights. Such requests lack political logic, are completely contrary to the principles and rules of international law, and are considered public and practical support for the origin of international crimes and terrorism in the region.

Ham Mihan: Arabs avoiding tension

In an analysis, Ham Mihan discussed the lack of desire by the Arabs to expand the war in the Middle East and said: Israel's action to assassinate Ismail Haniyeh has increased concerns about the expansion of the Gaza war to the entire region and the uncontrollable escalation of tension in the Middle East.Immediately after this terrorist act, Jordanian Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi came to Tehran and emphasized that he was carrying a message from Israel to Iran on this trip and that his goal was to "prevent the spread of tensions". It is clear that Jordan, like other Arab countries in the region, does not welcome the war between Iran and Israel. Arab countries with different motives, often to protect their interests, do not want to spread war and conflict in the region. Although Iran and Israel are both considered rival powers for the Arab powers of the region, the conflict between Iran and Israel will affect these countries as well.
