TEHRAN- Iran’s acting foreign minister expressed his approval of the establishment of peace and the formation of an interim government in Bangladesh.

“I express my support for the establishment of peace in Bangladesh, our esteemed ally, and extend my best wishes to my brother Md. Touhid Hossain, adviser to the Bangladesh interim government,” Ali Bagheri Kani stated on his X account on Monday.

The unrest in the South Asian nation began early last month following a high court decision that permitted the government to proceed with its job quota system initiative.

The demonstrations, primarily led by students, erupted in response to the plan that would allocate over 50% of lucrative civil service positions to a specific group, including the descendants of those who fought for the nation’s independence from Pakistan in the 1970s.

Tragically, approximately 200 individuals lost their lives during violent clashes between police and both pro- and anti-job quota protesters in Dhaka and other significant cities.

Touhid Hossain previously held the position of Foreign Secretary of Bangladesh and served as the high commissioner of Bangladesh to South Africa. Currently, he is acting as an adviser to the interim government of Bangladesh.
