Iranian officials united on retaliation against Israel: source

TEHRAN – An informed source has firmly denied any internal disagreements among Iran's top leadership regarding the response to Israel following the assassination of Ismail Haniyeh, a key Palestinian Resistance movement figure in Hamas, in Tehran.

The Iranian news agency Tasnim reported that contrary to claims by Israeli media suggesting a division among Iran’s high-ranking officials, including the President and the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC), there is complete unity at the strategic level within Iran's ruling system.

The source, speaking to Tasnim, stated, "There is no discord on this matter; instead, there is a rare consensus, determination, and agreement among the country's authorities to carry out the response." The source further noted that decisions on how to execute the retaliation are being made at the highest levels, specifically within the Supreme National Security Council, which is chaired by the President of Iran.

In the aftermath of the assassination of Ismail Haniyeh, who served as the head of Hamas's political bureau, the Islamic Republic of Iran has made it clear that it intends to respond decisively.

The Leader of Islamic Revolution, Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, warned Israel of a severe retaliation, describing it as Iran's duty to avenge Haniyeh’s blood. "The criminal and terrorist Zionist regime martyred our dear guest on our soil and left us in mourning, but it has also paved the way for its own harsh punishment," Ayatollah Khamenei stated.

Echoing this sentiment, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian asserted that the Islamic Republic would not hesitate to defend its territorial integrity and national sovereignty, vowing that Israel would soon face the consequences of its "cowardly and terrorist actions."

Similarly, the IRGC reiterated its commitment to taking revenge against what it called the "terrorist and adventurist Zionist regime," warning that Israel will face a "harsh punishment" at a time and place of Iran's choosing.

The assassination of Haniyeh occurred in the early hours of Wednesday, July 31, when he was in Tehran to attend the inauguration of Iran's new president. He was killed by an aerial projectile while staying at a residence in northern Tehran.

Israel unleashed its brutal war on Gaza on October 7 after Hamas carried out a historic operation against the usurping entity in retaliation for its intensified atrocities against the Palestinian people.

The ongoing Israeli military campaign has resulted in at least 39,790 Palestinians killed, the majority of whom are women and children.
