TEHRAN – The Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) has revealed that a short-range projectile armed with a seven-kilogram warhead was used for the assassination of Ismail Haniyeh, the head of Hamas’s political bureau, in Tehran.

In a statement issued on Saturday, the IRGC detailed the attack, saying that the projectile was fired from an area outside Haniyeh’s residence.

“This terrorist attack was designed and implemented by the Zionist regime and supported by the criminal government of the United States,” the statement reads.

The IRGC has vowed retribution for Haniyeh’s death, declaring that the Zionist regime would face severe consequences at "the appropriate time, place, and manner."

The attack, which also resulted in the death of Haniyeh’s bodyguard, occurred early on July 31. Haniyeh was in Tehran to attend the swearing-in ceremony of Iran’s newly-elected President Masoud Pezeshkian and to meet with other leaders of the Axis of Resistance.

In response to the assassination, Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, the Leader of Islamic Revolution, has warned of a "harsh response" against Israel. He emphasized that avenging Haniyeh’s death is a duty for the Islamic Republic. "The criminal and terrorist Zionist regime has martyred our esteemed guest on our soil and caused us grief, but it has also paved the way for severe retribution," Ayatollah Khamenei declared.
