TEHRAN – In an interview with Iranian media, Kamal Kharrazi, the head of Iran's Strategic Council on Foreign Relations and advisor to the Leader of the Islamic Revolution, refuted Israeli claims that Hezbollah was involved in a recent incident in the occupied Golan Heights, warning that the regime’s latest assertions are part of a broader strategy to escalate tensions in the region.

"Israel's claim regarding the incident in the occupied Golan is a repetition of its assertion following the bombing of the Al-Ahli Arab hospital in Gaza, which resulted in the martyrdom of 500 civilians, including innocent women and children, for which it blamed the Palestinian Resistance." He emphasized that such accusations are not new and reflect Israel's ongoing attempts to manipulate narratives surrounding its military actions.

On Saturday, at least 12 people were killed and 30 others wounded after a missile hit a football pitch in the town of the Majdal Shams village in the Israeli-occupied Syrian Golan. Israel attributed the attack to Lebanon’s Hezbollah Resistance movement, vowing to “tear Lebanon apart” over the incident. 

Hezbollah has denied involvement in the strike, while eyewitnesses say a misfired Iron Dome missile caused the incident. The Druze community in Majdal Shams, mourning the loss of loved ones, also holds Israel responsible.

"How could Hezbollah, as an ally of Syria, bomb the loyal residents of Golan who belong to Syria?" Kharrazi asked. "This is nothing more than a plot, and Israel must understand that if it engages in this gamble, it will face severe responses.”

The SCFR chief concluded with a message for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, stating, "The best solution for Netanyahu is to end the brutal war in Gaza, as continuing the war and expanding it will bring him nothing but destruction and slaughter."

Israel has been threatening to launch a war against Lebanon for several months now. Hezbollah has been attacking Israeli military positions in the occupied territories since October 8, vowing to continue its operations against the regime until Zionists put an end to their genocidal war in Gaza. The Resistance group’s attacks have forced tens of thousands of Israeli settlers to vacate the northern parts of the occupied territories bordering Lebanon. 

Back in July, Kharrazi warned that if Israel launches an all-out offensive against Hezbollah, it will risk triggering a regional war in which Tehran and the “Axis of Resistance” would support the Lebanese Resistance movement with “all means.”

He told the Financial Times that the Islamic Republic was “not interested” in a regional war and urged the U.S. to put pressure on Israel to prevent further escalation.

When asked if Iran would support Hezbollah in the event of a full-blown conflict, Kharrazi said, “All Lebanese people, Arab countries, and members of the Axis of Resistance will support Lebanon against Israel.”

He added, “The expansion of war is not in the interest of anyone — not Iran or the U.S.”
