Iran's nickname is Dream Team: Hadi Rezaei
TEHRAN – Iran men’s sitting volleyball team head coach Hadi Rezaei says that the world respects them and they are known as Dream Team.
Iran remains at the pinnacle of sitting volleyball, since the team have won seven gold and two silver medals in nine participations, meaning 100% of finals played (not to mention eight world titles won over the period).
The team look forward to winning eighth gold at the Arena Paris Nord, slated for Aug. 29 to Sept. 7.
The man behind this is Rezaei, who became an international in 1983, then captain and finally coach of Iran's men's sitting volleyball team.
Under his leadership, Iran leaves nothing but crumbs for their rivals.
“Expectations are high as you know we are Dream Team and are most decorated team in the world. We want to win our eighth gold in Paris but there is a difficult task ahead of us because the other team know us very well,” Rezaei said in an interview with Tehran Times.
“We’ve analyzed the other teams and will compete in the forthcoming Games with a new system. You will see a new Iranian team in the 2024 Paralympic Games,” he added.
Iran are drawn in Pool B along with Brazil, Germany and Ukraine.
Kazakhstan are in Pool A along with hosts France, Bosnia and Herzegovina and Egypt.
“We were supposed to travel to the Netherlands in early July to take part in a warm-up tournament but were denied visas by the country. Next week, we will play several friendly matches with Kazakhstan in Mashhad as final preparation for the Paralympics.
Iran iconic player Morteza Mehrzad, who was rumored to have lost his place in Team Melli due to shoulder injury, is fit for the Games.
“As you see, Morteza is ready at the moment and I have to say the current team have no problem in term of players. We have so many young talented and experienced players in our roster,” Rezaei concluded.
