Pezeshkian wins presidential post in Iran
TEHRAN – Official figures show that pro-reform candidate Masoud Pezeshkian wins about 16.4 million votes, thereby becoming Iran's new president. His conservative opponent Saeed Jalili garnered about 13.5 million votes.
The official figures released by the Interior Ministry election headquarters also put the number of voter turnout in the Friday runoff presidential election at 49.8 percent in comparison to the first round on June 28 which was about 40 percent.
Out of 60 million eligible voters in Iran, over 30 million participated in the Friday election, the Interior Ministry added.
Immediately after the voting process ended in the run-off presidential election in Iran on Friday night, the work to count the ballots started in polling stations across the country.
The voting started at 8: am local time on Friday morning and extended three times, lasting until 12: pm at midnight.
