Iran's envoy to Pakistan praises late Amir Abdollahian’s dedication to Palestinian cause

TEHRAN - Iran's ambassador to Pakistan has highlighted the profound impact of the late Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir Abdollahian, underscoring his fervent dedication to matters relating to the Palestinian cause.

In an interview with IRNA's foreign policy correspondent, Reza Amiri Moghadam, the Iranian ambassador to Islamabad, reflected on the personal attributes and professional achievements of the late Amir Abdollahian, emphasizing his pivotal role in advancing Iran's foreign policy goals. 

He began by expressing condolences for the tragic loss of several prominent figures, whose passing deeply saddened not only Iran but also the global Muslim and freedom-loving communities.

Amiri Moghadam highlighted, "One of the significant achievements of the thirteenth administration and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has been its unwavering support for Palestine and staunch opposition to Zionist occupation, with Foreign Minister Amir Abdollahian playing a vital role in this regard."

Addressing the ongoing crisis in Gaza, he remarked, "The Zionist regime's atrocities against innocent civilians have drawn global condemnation, with the International Court of Justice confirming its genocidal actions. American political elites face domestic backlash for their support of the Zionist regime."

The ambassador emphasized, "Amir Abdollahian remained unwavering in his commitment to the Palestinian cause, even amidst criticism. His contributions, including speeches at international forums and domestic meetings, underscored his unparalleled dedication."

Regarding international engagement, Amiri Moghadam stated, "Both the President and the Minister of Foreign Affairs actively represented Iran's interests in international forums, thanks to coordinated efforts among governmental branches, the military, and adherence to top-level directives, enabling significant strides in foreign policy."

He continued, "The collective efforts of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Amir Abdollahian, and the administration have been quite impactful, resulting in notable accomplishments such as improved regional relations and Iran's participation in key international bodies like the Shanghai Cooperation Organization and BRICS."

Concluding, Moghadam praised the late Foreign Minister Amir Abdollahian's personal integrity and diplomatic prowess, noting his significant influence within the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, which has become a cornerstone of Iran's national diplomacy.

President Raisi, Foreign Minister Hossein Amir Abdollahian and six others died on May 19, when their helicopter crashed in foggy weather in the mountains near the northwestern border with Azerbaijan. The charred wreckage of the aircraft was found the following day.

Following the death of Foreign Minister, Iran's cabinet appointed Ali Bagheri Kani as acting Foreign Minister.
