September 12, 2000 - 0:0
TEHRAN The Branch 1410 of Tehran Public Court on Monday held the second court hearing for editor of Goonagoon weekly Mrs. Fatemeh Farahmand in presence of the Press Jury.
Judge Saeid Mortazavi read the indictment against Farahmand accusing her of publishing materials against the Islamic Republic and illegally transferring the license of the weekly to another publication, Jame'e Rouz.
Mrs. Farahmand denied the charges against her and objected to the indictment issued by the public prosecutor against the weekly.
She said the prosecutor has failed to prove the charges against her.
She said the judge should consider the defendant innocent until the charges are proved.
She said she always refused to publish any article which she considered had even the slightest insult to the Islamic system.
Farahmand said the critics of the government are not the opponents of the Islamic Republic and that publishing an article in the weekly didn't mean that she approved of it.
The court hearing ended at noon and the jury was expected to hand down its verdict soon.
