Iran steel output, export on upward trend
TEHRAN- The latest data released by the Iranian Steel Producers Association (ISPA) show that the country’s crude steel production has risen 5.2 percent during the first ten months of the current Iranian calendar year (March 21, 2023-January 20, 2024), as compared to the same period of time in the past year.
The ISPA put Iran’s crude steel output at 27.095 million tons in the ten-month period of this year, while the figure was 25.755 million tons in the same time span of the previous year.
The association also announced that the Iranian steel producers produced over 18.255 million tons of different types of steel products during the first ten months of the present year.
Based on the mentioned data, the production of iron ore pellet rose 7.7 percent to 48.853 million tons, and sponge iron production increased 9.1 percent to 30.024 million tons in the mentioned ten-month period.
Iron ore pellet output was 45.375 million tons, and sponge iron output was 27.519 million tons in the first ten months of the past year.
According to the latest report released by the World Steel Association (WSA), Iran produced 31.1 million tons of crude steel in 2023 to account for 58.4 percent of West Asia’s total production in the mentioned year.
The West Asian nations reviewed in the WSA report, including Iran, Iraq, Jordan, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and Yemen, managed to produce 53.2 million tons of steel in 2023.
The Islamic Republic’s steel production increased by 1.8 percent in 2023 as compared to the previous year, when the production stood at 30.6 million tons, based on the WSA data.
West Asia’s total crude steel output increased by 1.3 percent in the mentioned year as compared to 2022.
Based on the WSA data, Iran maintained its place as the world’s 10th largest steel producer in 2023.
According to the WSA report, the world's steel producers managed to produce more than 1.888 billion tons of steel in 2023, which is a very slight decrease compared to 2022, and as a result, the World Steel Association has declared the percentage of change to be zero.
The Iranian Steel industry has been constantly developing over the past years against all the pressures and obstacles created by outside forces like the U.S. sanctions and the coronavirus outbreak that has severely affected the performance of the world’s top producers.
Today, enjoying the knowledge for the domestic production of the parts and equipment of the steel chain, the Iranian producers have given meaning to the breaking of the embargo wall, and this is the pride of Iran.
The country is expected to climb to seventh place among the world’s top steel producers by the Iranian calendar year 1404 (starts on March 2025).
