Yemen strikes US tanker in Gulf of Aden: statement
Yemeni Ansarullah movement has fired two anti-ship missiles at an American tanker, the Chem Ranger, in the Gulf of Aden, a spokesman for Ansarullah movement said.
"The naval forces of Yemen have carried out an operation in the Gulf of Aden, during which a U.S. ship, the Chem Ranger, was attacked with several anti-ship missiles," Yahya Saria said in a live broadcast on Al Masirah television.
He said one of the missiles directly hit the vessel.
Saria said the attack came in response to U.S. and British strikes on Ansarullah facilities in Yemen.
In a post on X, CENTCOM confirmed the attack on the U.S. ship in the Red Sea.
“On Jan. 18 at approximately 9 p.m. (Sanaa time), … Houthi terrorists launched two anti-ship ballistic missiles at M/V Chem Ranger, a Marshall Island-flagged, U.S.-Owned, Greek-operated tanker ship. The crew observed the missiles impact the water near the ship. There were no reported injuries or damage to the ship. The ship has continued underway,” CENTCOM said.
