Syria resistance thwarted U.S., Israeli schemes, crushed Takfiri groups: Raisi
TEHRAN- Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi has noted that terrorist-Takfiri groups were vanquished and U.S. and Israeli schemes were prevented by Syria’s resistance.
Raisi made the remarks in a meeting with visiting Syrian Prime Minister Hussein Arnous in Tehran on Saturday.
“The enmity of the U.S. and Zionist regime towards Syria was rooted in resistance of the Syrian government and nation and the defeat of their plots, particularly regarding the collapse of the terrorist-Takfiri groups,” the Iranian president stated.
He went on to say that despite a lack of air and sea troops, Palestinian resistance groups had disgraced Israel and its primary partner, the United States, over the last 60 days.
Except for the massacre of innocent women and children, the Israeli regime failed to fulfill any of its aims, he said.
“If it were not for the intelligence, military, security, financial and media assistance of the U.S., the Zionist regime would have collapsed by now,” Raisi underlined.
He said that Iran’s position for the last 43 years on the fraudulent and criminal nature of the regime has been validated by the tremendous outrage and animosity that the world public has shown toward Israel and its allies.
The president of Iran stressed that the Palestinian resistance movement, Hamas, has extended its frontiers beyond the region to the entire world through its operation against Israel, dubbed as Operation Al-Aqsa Storm.
“We have no doubt that just as the nations of Iraq, Syria, Yemen and Lebanon achieved victory against the United States and its allies, the Palestinian people will also emerge victorious in this battle,” Raisi averred.
Elsewhere in his remarks, Raisi emphasized the strategic and long-standing ties between Tehran and Damascus as well as the significance of expediting the implementation of bilateral accords.
He stated that Iran and Syria had great potential for broadening their bilateral cooperation in the political, economic, and commercial spheres.
He expressed hope that the two countries will swiftly implement measures to realize such potential.
For his part, the prime minister of Syria called the present trip to Tehran a watershed event for the strategic relationship between the two countries.
Arnous pointed out that the agreements Tehran and Damascus inked during his visit, especially in the areas of banking, energy, commerce, tourism, and finance demonstrated their commitment to advancing their collaboration.
On October 7, Israel started a deadly war on Gaza after the territory’s Palestinian resistance groups launched a surprise retaliation strike against the occupying regime.
Since then, the regime has killed almost 17,700 people in Gaza, the vast majority of them are women and children. More than 48,000 individuals have also been injured.
'Cooperation with resistance axis should be extended to economic levels'
In a meeting with Arnous on Sunday, Ali Akbar Ahmadian, the secretary of Iran's Supreme National Security Council, expressed hope that the axis of resistance can improve and expand the level of their cooperation in the economic fields appropriately just like the unique cooperation and coordination at the political, defense, and security levels.
Foe his part, Arnous said that the cohesion and unity of the resistance front doomed the plot of the U.S. and the Zionist regime to destroy Gaza, displace its people and wipe out the resistance.
Iran, Syria discuss ways to develop ties
In a meeting between Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, the speaker of Iran's Parliament, and Arnous on Saturday, they reviewed ways to augment ties especially in the economic and commercial fields.
Iran and Syria have close and fraternal ties, according to Ghalibaf, who also expressed hope that the arrival of a delegation from the Syrian government led by Arnous will improve ties on all fronts.
Noting the significance of the agreements made during the visit of the Syrian government delegation, he added, “Opportunities must be taken advantage of to enhance economic and trade cooperation.”
Arnous, for his part, emphasized the significance of implementing trade and economic agreements in order to realize the shared interests of the two friendly nations and peoples.
He also cited the significant meetings he had during his current visit with the First Vice President of Iran as well as the fruitful meetings and discussions the Syrian delegation had with Iranian counterparts.
He also said, “During the past few months, after the visit of the Iranian president to Syria, we were able to push many issues between the two countries more quickly.”
The meeting was attended by the accompanying delegation, the Syrian Ambassador to Iran, Shafik Dayoub, and the Iranian Ambassador in Damascus, Ali Akbari.
