TEHRAN - Iran's Foreign Minister Hossein Amir Abdollahian left Tehran for New York on Thursday morning to address a United Nations General Assembly meeting in line with Tehran’s serious efforts to bring an immediate end to Israel’s dreadful attacks on the besieged Gaza Strip.

"Efforts are being made at the United Nations General Assembly to stop the ‘war crimes’ of the Zionists in Gaza," Amir Abdollahian wrote on his social media page before attending the meeting.

Iran’s foreign minister was scheduled to address the General Assembly meeting on Thursday, local time.

"Today, during my speech, I will express our country's view on the developments in Palestine at the United Nations General Assembly. Considering the failure and veto of proposed resolutions in the Security Council, efforts are being made to issue a resolution at the General Assembly to stop the war crimes of the Zionists in Gaza and provide humanitarian aid to this region (Gaza Strip)," Amir Abdollahian stated.

Upon his arrival in New York, the chief diplomat said “the situation in West Asia has reached a boiling point due to ‘mass killings and genocide’ of people in Gaza” and each moment everything may get out of control.

He said these atrocities are being committed with the support of the U.S. and a few European countries for the Zionist regime.

Since October 7, when Hamas launched a surprise attack into the occupied territories, Israel has been relentlessly dropping bombs on the enclave, creating a hell on the earth. 

Since that date, Israel has also cut water, food, medicine and electricity to the blockaded strip and just in the last few days it has allowed a limited number of trucks to carry humanitarian aid to Gaza, which houses more than 2 million people.

“What is important for us is an immediate cessation of war crimes and genocide against innocent people in Gaza and the West Bank, immediate and extensive humanitarian assistance, and countering forced displacement of Gaza residents, which can be included in any resolution,” the foreign minister remarked.

According to reports released on Thursday, so far 3,000 children have been killed in Gaza as the death toll reaches 7,000.

* Palestinian envoy to the UN Riyad Mansour delivered emotional address at the General Assembly urging member states to “stop the killing” in Gaza.

The World Health Organization is demanding “unobstructed access” to deliver life-saving assistance to Gaza.

“The humanitarian and health crisis in Gaza has reached catastrophic proportions,” said Dr Ahmed Al-Mandhari, the agency’s regional director for the Eastern Mediterranean.

“Each passing moment places countless lives in jeopardy. The world should not tolerate further impediments to our mission of saving those at risk.”
