TEHRAN – Acclaimed Iranian dark comedy “World War III” will go on screen at the 013 Cinecitta International Film Festival, which is underway in Tilburg, the Netherlands.

Directed by Hooman Seyyedi, the film tells the story of Shakib, a day laborer who has a relationship with a deaf and mute woman, Ladan. The construction site on which he works today turns out to be the set of a film and, against all odds, Shakib is given a movie role, a house and a chance at being somebody. But then Ladan asks for help.

The film, which was Iran’s submission to the 2023 Oscars, won the Golden Tulip for best film at the 42nd Istanbul Film Festival last year.

The film has been screened in numerous international events, including the 79th Venice International Film Festival, where it won the Orizzonti Award for best film and the Orizzonti award for best actor for Mohsen Tanabandeh for his portrayal of Shakib.

It also won the jury award and the best actor award for Mohsen Tanabandeh at the first edition of the Da Nang Asian Film Festival (DANAFF) in May.

The 013 Cinecitta International Film Festival will come to an end on October 22.
