1995 Palme d'Or winner “Underground” at IAF cinematheque
TEHRAN- The Cinematheque of the Iranian Artists Forum (IAF) in Tehran will screen the 1995 Palme d'Or winner “Underground” directed by Emir Kusturica on Monday.
After the movie screening at 5 p.m., a review session entitled “Political-ideological or aesthetic criticism” will be held with the presence of critic, lecturer and analyst of Iranian film and cinema Robert Safarian, ILNA reported.
The comedy-drama film is an international co-production with companies from Yugoslavia (Serbia), France, Germany, Czech Republic and Hungary.
It uses the epic story of two friends to portray a Yugoslav history from the beginning of World War II until the beginning of the Yugoslav Wars.
“Underground” received critical acclaim, and won the Palme d'Or at the 1995 Cannes Film Festival. It was Kusturica's second win following When Father Was Away on Business (1985). It went on to win other honors after Cannes Film Festival.
The Iranian Artists Forum is situated at Artists Park on North Mousavi Street, Taleqani Street.
