TEHRAN - Iran will provide Qatar with 250 tons of food and agricultural products to Qatar on a daily basis during the World Cup.

The decision was made after participating in an exhibition in Doha last month, Trade Promotion Organization (TPO) Head Alireza Peyman-Pak said on Saturday.

The government pays special attention to boosting trade ties with neighboring countries, he added.

Iran and Qatar have stressed preparing a roadmap to boost the value of trade between the two countries to three billion dollars by 2025, the portal of TPO reported.

In a meeting in October between Mohsen Rezaei, the Iranian vice president for economic affairs, and Qatar's Emir Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad al-Thani, the two sides discussed ways of expanding trade ties between the two countries and emphasized the need for taking the necessary measures to reach the mentioned economic goal.

During the meeting, which was also attended by TPO Head Alireza Peyman-Pak, the Iranian side proposed drawing a roadmap for the two countries’ trade development which was welcomed by Qatar's Emir.

In June, the two countries inked a memorandum of understanding (MOU) at the end of the eighth Joint Economic Committee meeting in Doha to outline avenues for future cooperation, IRIB reported.

The MOU was signed by Iranian Energy Minister Ali-Akbar Mehrabian and Qatar’s Minister of Commerce and Industry Sheikh Mohammed Bin Hamad Bin Qassim Al-Thani who co-chaired the committee meeting.

This memorandum determines the framework of cooperation in various fields including transit, transportation, industry, and trade, energy, customs, free zones, tourism, culture, agriculture, sports, etc.

"One of the most important goals of the meeting is to support the Iranian and Qatari private sectors, and we are happy to see that a large conference with the participation of Iranian businessmen is being held in Doha at the same time as the meeting of the joint committee," Mehrabian said

According to the official, eight MOUs on food, medical industry, knowledge-based companies, etc. were also signed between businessmen of the two countries on the sidelines of the mentioned meeting.
