TEHRAN – Choosing the right packaging for handicrafts has a significant impact on their sales and exports, an official with the tourism ministry has said.

The packaging of handicraft products plays an important role in increasing their sales and the development of this sector, Mohammad Hossein Asgarpur explained on Friday.

Therefore, the ministry focuses on planning and implementing measures so that handicraft packaging gets adequate attention, the official added.

Several meetings and workshops are held each year to explain the importance of packaging to craftspeople and artisans across the country, he noted.

Despite some veteran artisan’s views on the packaging, the new generation believes in its importance and uses appropriate packaging for their handmade products, he mentioned.

Back in July, Cultural Heritage, Tourism, and Handicrafts Minister Ezzatollah Zarghami said that proper and beautiful packaging for handicrafts should be taken into consideration.

Handicraft products should be packaged in beautiful and durable ways, so that customers may reuse the packaging after using the product inside, he explained.

It can increase the sale and export of handmade products to other countries if such packaging is used, he added.

With 14 entries, Iran ranks first globally for the number of cities and villages registered by the World Crafts Council, as China with seven entries, Chile with four, and India with three ones come next.
