SAIPA: “Shahin” Car Style Completely Designed by Expert Engineers of SAIPA Automotive Group
Stating that “Shahin” car is the first product from SP100 Platform, the Technical and Engineering Deputy CEO of SAIPA Automotive Group said that in designing this car, in addition to the defined standards, the safety issue of this car was taken into serious consideration.
Accordingly, the design stage of the car was done based on three-star Euro N Cap, he said, adding that strength of the car’s body was considered optimally in prototyping and manufacturing the parts.
Turning to the design and manufacturing of “Shahin” Car, Mehdi Pazoki said that car manufacturing companies have no choice but to design new products to overcome quality, pricing and parts supply problems, and for this purpose, SAIPA Automotive Group has taken giant strides in this field.
The old platform means a platform that does not have the ability to improve quality and respond to the current needs, he said, adding that in this regard, the production year of the desired platform is not considered because some of the world's leading car manufacturing companies, such as Japanese car giant “Toyota”, have a platform that dates back several years ago, but it has the ability to be upgraded and used, and is being used.
Accordingly, SAIPA Automotive Group put a program on the agenda from 10 years ago and defined the SP1 platform, Pazoki emphasized.
SAIPA Automotive Group managed to use a platform in difference classes due to the background and knowledge it had acquired over many years ago.
He added that the initial design is made based on a mega-platform, which means that cars of different classes can be produced in different categories on this platform, he said, stating that the with the changes in the dimensions of the floor and overhangs of the car, the car can be manufactured in the classes B and C and in “Sedan”, “hatchback” and “crossover” can be produced. Therefore, two platforms of SP100 and SP0 have been defined from this mega platform.
With these conditions, SAIPA’s Shahin car successfully passed various safety and accident tests, and the result of the accidents of this car has been reflected in the media in a way that, fortunately, it has good strength in its body and this is a solid evidence that that Shahin car is highly welcomed by customers of this car due to its safety condition, the Technical and Engineering Deputy SAIPA Automotive Group added.
In cars with an old platform, it is difficult to create new requirements in them, and in some cases, increasing the standard requirements does not improve the quality of the product, but in the Shahin product, because from the beginning, all the new and updated standards and requirements are in the design. It was seen initially, the desired conditions and requirements can be easily placed in it and it will increase the quality of the product.
Stating that in choosing the platform and in which class the car should be designed and produced, he said that SAIPA Automotive Group's initial productions were in class A and B cars, and at the time of designing this mega-platform, after examining the market situation and people's interest in class C cars, SAIPA Automotive Group focused on manufacturing mega-sized cars in order to meet the demands at the car market and also to develop its market.
Given the above issue, SAIPA Automotive Group managed to design a mega-platform that can produce both C-class cars and also B-class cars with the fair and reasonable cost.
Pazoki stated that the design of the car is based on two parts; First, designing the style of the car, and secondly, the operationalization of this style design, which includes the design of molds, operationalization, and manufacturing of parts.
The design of the car style was done by the experts and specialists of the SAIPA Automotive Group’s Research and Innovation Center, which is one of the honors of this leading car manufacturing group, and the design of the car style was done completely indigenously without any consultants, he said, adding that in the design of molds and parts, this capability existed within the SAIPA Automotive Group, and a part of it was done, but due to the fact that there was no capacity to produce all the molds in the country at the same time, some of the molds, despite the ability to produce them inside, were produced abroad, so that “Shahin” car production project can be completed in scheduled date.The Technical and Engineering Deputy of SAIPA Automotive Group pointed to the improvements made in
“Shahin” product and stated that after “Shahin” car hit the market and in the feedback received from the customers, the car needs certain improvements and based on this, 12 projects were defined in the production and supply chain.
One of the main projects that was defined and implemented regarding the Shahin car was about the sound of turbo charging, which was modified, he said, adding that turbocharger is a mechanical structure that produces noise, and the transmission of noise into the cabin should be prevented.
Based on this, nearly 24 pieces of insulation were designed and modified, and fortunately, since the beginning of March last year, the use of sound insulation has been implemented in this car, and customers have been completely satisfied, and this plan has also been included in the operational process of after-sales service.
In addition, a project was defined in the car cooling system, he said, stating that considering that there are different climates in the country and the temperature difference in two parts of the country is more than 40 degrees and the car was facing cooling problems under full load in the tropical regions and on the other hand, the turbocharged engine has a higher heat density and heat transfer ratio is higher than naturally aspirated engines, so it was revised to solve the problem of the car's cooling system.
Accordingly, the double-row radiator was designed, which is responsible for cooling the car in difficult conditions. This radiator was originally designed for an automatic “Shahin” car, and due to the creation of suitable conditions, it has been used for the regular “Shahin” car as well.
In general, an engine is defined for each car to suit that car. The fact that an engine must be designed for a car has no engineering basis at all, and currently in Chinese cars, there is a very wide range of cars from an engine of “Mitsubishi” family, and the engine for the car becomes meaningful when what we need from that car to meet the demands.
Regarding the engine of the “Shahin” car, according to the reviews that have been done, the external performance has been examined for the customers, and there is no dissatisfaction with its performance, because the engine meets the desired characteristics of “Shahin” car, Pazoki stated.
He went on to say that automatic cars have a good variety in terms of features, interior comfort, and different options, and although part of the variety of luxury car options was limited due to the sanctions imposed against the country, he said, adding, “Fortunately, we were able to create a visual distinction in this car.”
The Technical and Engineering Deputy CEO of SAIPA Automotive Group said that in this car, options such as handles, front window and rear garnish of the car are chromed, also the interior dashboard is designed in two colors, and the car comes with a CVT gearbox. The manufacturer of this gearbox is Punch Belgium, which is the owner of style in the world and has an active presence in global markets.
The product certification tests have been done and it is expected that all the tests and plate numbering process of this car will be done by the end of the year (March 20, 2023) and according to the scheduled program, the product will hit the domestic market next year, he added.
In SAIPA Citroën, the EC5 engine line was installed and in the process of starting up, and with the start of the sanctions and the departure of Citroen, SAIPA prepared a plan to revive this engine, and in the engine production line of Megamotor, where the engine of Renault cars was produced, this engine is ready for production.
