Over 2m Iranian artisans engaged in handicrafts

TEHRAN – More than two million artisans are currently working in various fields of handicrafts across Iran, deputy director of the Cultural Heritage, Handicrafts and Tourism Organization has said.

Until now, some 400,000 craftspeople have been registered with the CHHTO, Pouya Mahmoudian said, CHTN reported on Saturday.

Iran’s handicrafts exports reached $190 million in the first nine months of the current Iranian calendar year (started March 21, 2018), showing 11 percent growth year on year.

Traditional ceramics, pottery vessels, handwoven cloths as well as personal ornamentations with precious and semi-precious gemstones are among Iranian exports to Iraq, Afghanistan and Germany, the U.S., the UK and other countries.
